Not a wedding photo! But it was taken at a wedding. Here's the back story.
The bride was getting her dress on so I stepped out of the room and next to me were these stairs. Thinking ahead here I thought it would be great to get a shot of her walking down theses stairs in her dress so I started framing it and then adjusting my settings for the shot. I wanted to make sure my shutter speed was fast enough to freeze the movement of her walking down the stairs so I called my second shooter up to help me test. In the mean time, I took a test shot anyways to make sure the lighting was right and just then, at the perfect moment, the bride’s dog ran up the stairs and I caught him in mid stride!
Pretty thrilled with how this shot turned out, all things considered. The dog is nice and sharp and framed nicely. In a shot with something moving, you want to show movement so he’s captured just entering into the right third of the image, with enough of the frame left open to show where he’s going. This shot also uses lines really well in directing the eyes on where to look and rest.
One of the things I’m a big stickler for with my photos personally is really straight lines. I always try to line my photos up with something as if there was an imaginary grid floating in the foreground and this picture here is so perfectly gridded it just warms my heart.
