Deer Lake Park is a popular spot for wedding photos, especially if any part of the wedding is happening in Burnaby. During wedding season it's not uncommon to see limo after limo in the parking lot in what can only be described as a wedding photography queue.
Of course, if you’re having your wedding at Hart House, Deer Lake is the logical spot to have your portraits taken. Recently, however, I went on a walk on the other side of the park and found that it has much more to offer than the more popular side.
This spot, though a bit of a walk is definitely worth checking out if you have the time on your wedding day, or if you’re just looking for a simple engagement session. It offers plentiful tall grass to use as backdrops, lakeside views and more diverse looking boardwalks than the other side does.
Just a heads up though. At the time of this writing (July 2020), Deer Lake is uni-directional, meaning if you drove yourself, be prepared for a long walk back to the car because you’ll have to do the whole loop.
