This photo here is all about genuine expressions. When I first started, I was all about good posing and I still am about good posing however I think genuine expressions are so much better than what anyone can create! Genuine expressions are natural, and authentically you. I could have a bag of poses that I run through with all of my couples and no one will ever know. Expressions and moments cannot be recreated.
This shot was taken just after dinner, before dessert. I always bring up getting some portraits done at sunset to all my couples because that’s when the lights best. If soft, glowing photos is what you’re after, sunset is the time for it. Most of the time though, it doesn’t happen as sunset is right in the middle of dinner. This wedding though was completely outdoors so it was super easy to just step aside for a few shots after dinner.
For this photo, I wanted to get a shot where the couple is facing each other and as the sun is setting I would place it right in between the couples lips as they kiss. It looks really nice when it’s done right. I don’t actually recall what happened here to get them to laugh like they did but it turned out much better than what I had envisioned. The fact that the groom has his eyes closed might even make it a better shot. It adds a humanizing imperfection to the photo that makes it more relatable.
Lastly, and this is more so related to this particular couple, this photo represents them having the time of their lives at their wedding. You can’t tell from this photo but the groom has a broken leg and the wedding was almost rescheduled but they made it happen!
