This wedding took place days before the government shut down all social gathering due to COVID19. Looking back, I’m really grateful that Vance and Ben still went through with their wedding and created such a happy time for everyone when things were about to become very uncertain.
We started the day by meeting the couple at the Seaside Hotel in Lonsdale Quay. Vance was having a little bit of a moment with his bow tie, but we managed to figure things out. After celebrating with a bit of champagne we headed out for some quick portraits before the ceremony began.
There was supposed to be a home town hockey event happening at the Quay and it was a gorgeous day out, but due to COVID19, the event was cancelled and there weren’t many people around which made things much easier to photograph!
I really enjoyed how personalized their ceremony was. They had one of their best friends officiate it with another good friend who sang and played the guitar. Their ceremony combined both Jewish and Chinese elements such as a tea ceremony, the use of a chuppah and the stepping on the wine glasses to close off the ceremony.
The reception was filled with so much personality as well; starting with the grand entrance where Ben, donned in overalls, pushed Vance out on a moving cart. Shoutout to the amazing girls at Filosophi Events who took things to the next level with their jazz hands!
Their first dance was also nothing that I’ve seen before. It started with a slideshow of their families and childhood, except Vance and Ben was green-screened into it. The slideshow ended with them walking off the screen, then they walked onto the dance floor. They started with the usual slow dance before breaking out their flashing neon sunglasses and busted out into a choreographed dance. That dance transitioned into a little traditional Chinese lion dance before moving into the horah dance which was full of energy.
