Earlier this year I went to Kelowna to photograph Rachel & Tye's wedding, and no matter where I go, or if I've been there before, I always try to take some time to explore the city as a tourist. The first order upon arriving was to have dinner at Raudz, probably the best restaurant in Kelowna! Went there last time I was in the city and it was so good that I just had to go again.
The next morning we went location scouting for some portrait spots and came across a family of deer!
On the day that we were leaving we went to visit the Kangaroo Creek Farm which is a petting zoo. As an animal lover, I thought it was very worthwhile!
They had capybara which we could feed. I had never seen or pet one before. Spoiler alert, they feel like a brush on top of muscle.
They also had a sugar glider there! The zoo keeper pulled this little fella out of her inside jacket pocket haha. It was suuupperrr soft!
And of course they had kangaroos and other animals! They actually have kangaroos, wallaroos and wallabies there. I was surprised to find that their fur felt different from one and other. I don't remember which, but one felt kinda rough, one was super soft, and the other was in between. They also had quite a few albino wallaroos there, which I was surprised to see. The zookeeper said that the animals are all born there and live out their lives there, so I guess the albino wallaroos breed with the other albino wallaroos! There was also an ostrictch there that was stalking me.
The drive back home was crazy! We went to the zoo in the morning and it was sunny-ish and decently warm. Went to eat lunch and it was raining, hard. When we left it was kinda overcast, with a bit of sun. 30-45mins into our drive we got wet snow, that turned into heavy snow. Within minutes we saw a flipped car in a ditch. In less than 10mins we saw another flipped car and that was our sign to slow wayyyyy down. Things eventually cleared up and dried out but when we were about 1.5hrs from home we experienced the heaviest hail that I've ever seen. There was next to no visibility, it was insane! On the way to Kelowna we saw a sign that said snow tires are mandatory from October to May. We were heading back on October 1st and didn't think things would come into effect right away haha.
